Workshop 5 weave
This was the second workshop I did with Becky and Natasha. It was linked to Becky’s practice, but it also linked to a work I did for my own practice where I made a weave that represented how being British-Pakistani is a layered narrative that intertwines. We asked the children to make a frame of any shape they liked for their weaving. They weren’t precious about the shape, or their lines having to go the same way or the colours. Some of them resembled more of a web. It was interesting how they followed the ‘rules’ but all came up with something uniquely their own. I think that is something that changed my view on how I think about cultural identity.
